Zines in the Making: A Glimpse at "The Impact of the ORISHA"

A preview of zines created by Richmond Youth Artists

“The Impact of the Orisha” is the culmination project created by Richmond Youth Artists who participated in the Richmond Art Center’s 6 week zine-making workshop called Dreams of Liberated Futures from July-August 2024. Rooted in African and Indigenous wisdom, Youth Artists engaged in a process centering visual storytelling and zinemaking as a way to access liberated realities, strengthen connections with the earth, and water personal and collective power. Youth artists were introduced to the Dagara medicine wheel and to the Yoruba forces of nature, the orishas. “The Impact of the Orisha” contains a glimpse into the short stories and illustrations created by these brilliant young artists. Stay tuned for the complete zine!
